Donovan Bailey Assignment #6 Auguste E8C

Donovan Bailey was born in Jamaica on December 16, 1967 and immigrated to Canada when he was about thirteen. He lived in Oakville, Ontario and went to Queen Elizabeth Park High school and spent most of his free time playing basketball. Donovan went to Sheridan college where he got a degree in business administration and became a great stockbroker in 1990. Once he watched the Canadian track and field championships and saw some of his high school/college classmates who were professional athletes who he could beat in high school with next to no training. Donovan Bailey started doing the 100 metre sprint as a part-time job and when the legendary coach Don Pfaff saw him run, he saw in Bailey a big heart, great talent and self-confidence despite some of his bad running habits and invited Donavan to train with him in Louisiana state university. In the 100 metre dash world championships in Gothenburg in 1995 he won the 100 metre sprint and the 100 x 4 metre relay. His message was clear: he was on his way to history.

At the peak of his career Donovan Bailey was going strong; he just got gold in the Gothenburg championship 100 metre sprint and 100 x 4 metre relay. Donovan Beat the 50 metre record timing with an amazing 5.56 seconds! The best was still to come at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic games where he got a gold medal in the 100 metre sprint and 100 x 4 metre relay and broke the 100 metre world record timing with 9.84 seconds. Michael Johnson doing television commercials said he was the world fastest man winning both the 200 and 400 metre sprints at Atlanta, Donovan Bailey ignored this but he got mad when Michael Johnson trashed talked him and they set a time and date for a race to occur. This race was 150 metres and Donovan Bailey won it, the newspapers proclaimed him as the worlds fastest man, Canadians and African Canadians alike were very proud of his achievements. At the low of his career in 2000 Donovan Bailey broke his Achilles tendon and retired from running to look after his two children and wife; Donovan Bailey is remembered as a great runner, 50 metre world record holder and a idol to all Canadians, people of African descent and sprinters alike.
